Alternative Dispute Resolution and Mediation

Presented By: Ira David (bio)

February's topic will be "Alternative Dispute Resolution and Mediation." Even for seasoned HR Professionals, Alternative Dispute Resolution (aka ADR), especially mediation, is not well understood. However, incorporation of some form of ADR into many organization's HR practices have become more common in recent years. ADR provides some quantifiable advantages to organizations.

This presentation will discuss the different types of ADR, particularly mediation, under what circumstances each might be an effective alternative to litigation or other action and why. HR Professionals and Senior Leadership of all types of organizations will come away with a better understanding of the alternatives, as well as the pros and cons of each, including when each is applicable, or to be avoided.

Ira David
Ira David is a thirty-plus year veteran of the business world. He started his career as a mathematician, but quickly moved into what was then the infant computer services and software industry and spent three decades holding every corporate and technical position other than CFO. In 2005, after more than a decade as CEO of Millennium Systems Products, Inc., he redirected his career by obtaining his law degree and commenced the practice of commercial and intellectual property law.

Ira entered the world of ADR in 2006 by joining the Better Business Bureau panel of arbitrators. In 2007 he was recognized as the Arbitrator of the Year in Southern Nevada. He then joined the American Arbitration Association panel of arbitrators, the Nevada Foreclosure Mediation Program panel of mediators, and the American Arbitration Association panel of mediators. In the last five years, he has handled nearly three hundred mediation and arbitration cases. As of January of this year, he joined with Ileana Drobkin, who has over two hundred mediations under her belt, and formed ID Mediations, LLC, an independent mediation services firm offering dispute resolution in Nevada and surrounding states.
