Certification is the well-earned badge of professional achievement. Beyond experience and education, it is the true measure of knowledge in the HRM field. For more than a decade, the Southern Nevada Human Resource Association has been helping its members prepare for the PHR/SPHR certification exam. A preparation study group is organized and facilitated twice a year prior to the Mid-year and End-of-year testing dates.

 

The registration for the 2011 Fall Study Group is now in progress. Don't let another year pass! Make 2011 the year you accomplish your goal of attaining a certification to signify your high degree of knowledge and competence as a human resource management professional.

 

WHEN: Wednesdays, 6-9 p.m., September 7, 2011 through November 23, 2011.

 

WHO: Pre-registered study group participants. All participants must be SNHRA members.

 

COST: $557 EARLY BIRD Registration until July 20, 2011 (includes SNHRA Study Group Registration Fee, SHRM Learning System, and S&H - the deeply discounted SHRM Learning System is available only through the SNHRA Certification Committee). REGULAR Registration from July 21, 2011 until August 24, 2011 is $617. No registrations including the SHRM Learning System will be accepted after end of business August 24, 2011. If you already have the SHRM Learning System, you can enroll for $80 during Early Bird registration (until EOD July 20, 2011) or $110 during Regular Registration (until EOD August 24, 2011)

STUDY MATERIALS: The SHRM Learning System features updated content based on HRCI's new body of knowledge; more than 1,600 questions allow you to test your knowledge and better prepare for the certification exam; new case study that is interactive and focused on real-life situations faced by HR professionals. You will apply learned concepts in eight different scenarios and work through questions for each; and, 100-question bonus test that mimics the HRCI certification exam so you can hone your test taking skills. (SHRM list price is $650 for members and $795 for non-members)

Wortham Scholarship

 

In cooperation with Mary Beth Hartleb, founder and CEO of PRISM Human Resources Consulting and Insurance Services, LLC; SNHRA is pleased to announce a scholarship opportunity for Study Group participants named after our beloved former Executive Administrator, Denyse Wortham. As you will recall, we lost Denyse to a long-term illness approximately a year ago. To honor the many years of dedicated service and enthusiasm that Denyse put into SNHRA, Mary Beth has made a generous donation to get the "Wortham Scholarship" program off the ground. This opportunity is open to participants in the Study Group who meet the following criteria:

  • Must be a Human Resources professional;
  • Must present a summary of their HR experience and where they are in their HR career;
  • Establish a need for the scholarship (i.e. their employer is not paying for the course or materials);
  • Submit their purpose in taking the PHR/SPHR exam and what they believe certification will do for them as an HR professional, and
  • Complete the entire study group and regularly attend the meetings.

Study Group participants interested in applying for the Wortham Scholarship must submit verification of the information required above to admin@snhra.org before the November 16th study group meeting.

 

Scholarship(s) in the amount of $100 will be awarded to the successful applicant(s) to reimburse them for their study group fee and a portion of their books.

Course Description

Prepare for the nationally recognized PHR (Professional in Human Resources) or SPHR (Senior Professional in Human Resources) designation from the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) or obtain re-certification credit using the Learning System™. The SHRM Learning System contains six knowledge areas with each topic assigned a different weighting for the PHR/SPHR tests. Pass rates are consistently higher for those who have completed university-sponsored preparation programs. Your instructors are local leaders in human resources and each hold the SPHR designation. Courses are offered on Saturdays (11 sessions) and Tuesday evenings (13 sessions).
