SNHRA is hosting its yearly HR101 Bootcamp on April 13, 2010 at the Gold Coast Hotel & Casino. This is a special event that will directly follow the breakfast meeting.
Our Human Resources Boot Camp has been designed to assist HR practitioners on topics related to their day-to-day work.
Section one
This section is an Overview of the HR Management Roles and Responsibilities. This section reviews the basic essentials necessary for running an HR department: Staffing, Employee Development and Training, Compensation and Benefits, Employee Relations, Safety and Health, and Future Trends and Challenges in HRM.
Section two
This section addresses the critical legal issues connected to the day-to-day human resources management responsibilities: Recruiting and Staffing, Post-hire Issues, Compensation and Benefits, Prevention of Harassment, Discrimination, and Retaliation Charges, and Health/Safety.
HR101 will be presented by top HR professionals:
Two-time SNHRA Past President Carol Herrington (Bio), and Past President Mary Beth Hartleb (Bio) of PRISM HR Consulting.
HRCI recertification credit approved for 4.75 general recertification hours.

Carol Herrington has been a practicing human resources generalist for approximately 23 years. For the past 18 years, she has served as the senior human resources professional in the positions she’s held with heavy equipment sales and service, utility construction, engineering and architectural firms. |
In the past decade, her professional focus has been in the creation and implementation of the essential human resource management functions in small companies.
She provides consulting human resource management and support services to small and mid-sized companies, and serves as Lead Faculty for Human Resource Management courses in the John Sperling School of Business at the University of Phoenix.
She is a long-time member of the Society of Human Resource Management (SHRM) and an active life-time member of the Southern Nevada Human Resource Association (SNHRA). Since joining SNHRA in 1986, she has served as the organization’s President for two separate terms and held various other positions on the board for many years. Her current volunteer role with the SNHRA is Board Member at Large, Certification Chair and Director Emeritus. Carol was named recipient of the 2006 Woman of Distinction Award for Human Resources by the National Association Women Business Owners.

Mary Beth’s career spans twenty years in the human resources field working for Fortune 500 companies while developing human resource departments for smaller, entrepreneurial ventures. |
She works in the areas of insurance brokering in life, health, property and casualty insurance, recruiting and staffing, training, compensation, benefits design and administration, policy and procedure development, mergers and acquisitions, employee and labor relations. She is experienced in various industries including gaming, restaurant, telecommunications, broadcasting, and non-profit organizations.
She created the first Women Mean Business Expo which allowed women – owned businesses to showcase products and services to the Las Vegas business community. She serves in a voluntary capacity for the governor appointed committees of the Business Development Advisory Council and the Regional Business Development Advisory Council in Nevada. Mary Beth adjuncts at UNLV, University of Phoenix and Regis University and previously taught at the University of Southern Nevada, She served in a voluntary role as President of the Southern Nevada Human Resource Association. In 2007, she was awarded the Woman In Business Champion award by the United States Small Business Administration. She currently serves on the Legislative Committee for the Henderson Chamber of Commerce.
Mary Beth holds a juris doctorate degree from the William S. Boyd School of Law, a master's degree in Human Resource Management and a bachelor's degree in Marketing and Business Administration. Her credentials include the Senior Human Resource Professional (SPHR-CA) designation from the Society for Human Resource Management. She is a contributing writer to Gaming & Leisure Magazine and has authored several articles on human resource topics. She is frequently quoted as a subject matter expert in business publications. A regular speaker at international conferences; and a member of International Speakers Network, Mary Beth has addressed audiences on various HR topics.
